antelope valley

Every few years, when the winter climatic conditions are just right, the arrival of spring is heralded by a massive explosion of orange poppies on the hillsides northeast of Los Angeles – the superbloom. These California classics only stick around for a few weeks until the heat of the desert wilts the flowers and disperses their seeds for the next year’s cycle. The superblooms attract droves of visitors to marvel at their scale, rarity, and fragile beauty, but they are increasingly threatened by climate change via extreme drought and unpredictable weather patterns unless we act to preserve them.
